The Cass County squadron was buzzing with activity September 25-26, 2009 when senior member 1Lt Mark Miller and nine cadets completed the entire Civil Air Patrol Model Rocketry program within a two-day weekend. Cadets began in the classroom where they received instruction about the three model rocketry stages – Redstone, Titan and Saturn. After completing the Fizzy Flyers and TP Torpedoes, cadets transformed the classroom into a learning lab by constructing their own model rockets – an historical rocket, a single-stage rocket, and a payload rocket. Launching the rockets is the best part of the weekend, according to cadets, but sometimes a failure to launch is as much a learning process as seeing their handmade missiles shoot to the sky. Participating cadets were: C/A1C Daniel Peters, C/Amn Jack Conklin, C/Amn Jacob King, C/Amn Ty Humbird, C/Amn Kurt Mathews, C/Amn Carlos Miller, C/Amn Ryland Miller, C/AB Ceasar Swigart, and C/AB Christian Swigart. Cadets assisting were: 2Lt Daniel Caron and C/CMSgt Karra Miller. Teaching the model rocketry program was 1Lt Mark Miller. |

Thousands of people waited patiently on June 6, 2009, to enter the Whiteman Air Force Base free airshow, Wings of Whiteman, and several Cass County Civil Air Patrol cadets were on hand to serve. With the great amount of visitors attending the event, trash clean-up topped the list for cadet jobs. The Missouri Wing hosted a recruiting booth for the entire state. Throughout the day a company of interested parents and future cadets inquired about the role of CAP in their communities. Visitors to the booth came from areas as far south as the Lake of the Ozarks and as far west as Kansas. Don't be surprised if you have an interested party show up at your next meeting! Cass County cadets and senior members participating were: C/2nd Lt Jordan Hargis, C/2nd Lt Daniel Caron, C/TSgt Crystal Runyon, C/TSgt Genesis Martinez, C/SSgt Trenton Eckerle, C/A1C Malachi Hargis, C/A1C Aaron Gerry, C/Amn Daniel Peters, C/AB Brett Garten, Capt Mark Eggenberger, Capt Tammi Miller, Lt Mark Miller and Sgt. Mike Mudry. |

Completing the program and receiving the model rocketry badge were: C/CMSgt Daniel Caron, C/SMSgt Luke Wood, C/SrA Trenton Eckerle, C/A1C Aaron Gerry, C/AB Brent Garten, and C/AB Jacob Wright.
