The National Football League requested the company of the Cass County Honor Guard for the pre-season home-openers of both the St. Louis Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs. Cadets traveled several hours across the state to the Rams stadium in downtown St. Louis to present the colors for the August 14, 2010, game against the Minnesota Vikings. Even with over 40,000 viewers in attendance, the Vikings pulled out a win of 28 to 7. Cadets participating in the honor guard were: C/A1C Jack Conklin, C/A1C Carlos Miller, C/SSgt Jacob King, C/SSgt Daniel Peters, and C/MSgt Trenton Eckerle. Seniors attending the event were the Missouri Wing Commander Colonel John Mais and Major Tony Belto.

The Honor Guard presented the colors for the Kansas City Chiefs third pre-season home-opener game against the Philadelphia Eagles as well, before a packed crowd of 64,809 screaming Chiefs fans. The Chiefs’ team live mascot, Warpaint the horse, raced across the field as the cadet guard carried the colors toward the sideline. The Chiefs lost a valiant battle against the Eagles, 20-17. Cadets participating in the Honor Guard were: C/A1C Carlos Miller, C/SrA Drew Honigman, C/TSgt Daniel Peters, C/SSgt Ryland Miller, and C/2Lt Karra Miller. Seniors attending the event were: Major Tony Belto, Major Tammi Miller, and Capt Mark Miller.

icon_newsThe Kansas City Air Show, held August 23-24, 2008, at the Kansas City Downtown Airport in downtown Kansas City, Missouri, has been considered a true success story by cadets, senior members, and airshow personnel. C/A1C Cody Olson from the Cass County Composite Squadron attended the Expo for the first time, and reported to the event PAO's, “This is my first airshow and it's wicked awesome!” The KC Aviation Expo, presented by the Mid-America Youth Aviation Association, featured The Thunderbirds, the dynamic Air Force showstoppers who worked the crowd by meet and greet sessions and by just walking throughout the show shaking hands with young and old alike. The US Army Golden Knights gave day and evening performances, and the US Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet pilots proved their abilities by a high performance tactical demonstration. The weekend's most interesting presentation was the the world's only jet-powered “Outhouse,” which drew a few strange comments from the distinguished commentator, Johnny Rowlands, the Chief pilot of KMBC's Newschopper 9 helicopter.

The Cass County Composite Squadron and Missouri's CAP Group 1 spearheaded the event with cadets and senior members working as crowd control and all around assisting whenever needed. Michael Roper, the Airport Manager for the KC Downtown Airport told the group, “We couldn't have an airshow without you guys.” Many of the Mid-America Youth Aviation Association's team members remarked about the “great attitudes” and “volunteerism and stewardship of time” that the CAP personnel demonstrated throughout the weekend. Senior member Kerfoot from the Kansas New Century Squadron remarked, “This is my first time being a senior member at the Air Show and I'm really enjoying it. The leadership here is wonderful.” Squadrons assisting with the weekend were: Kansas: New Century, Lawrence, and Kansas City; Missouri: Harry S. Truman and Cass County.

Captain Melinda Berry, the Deputy Commander for the Expo, organized the weekend so that the cadets and senior members rotated to and from specific posts at the airport, and occasionally assisted in the moving of static aircraft to the tarmac by airport personnel. A few senior members and cadets were positioned as event PAO's, and a Public Affairs/DDR/Recruiting Booth was held to distribute information about the variety of squadrons available surrounding the Kansas City area. Hundreds of prospective cadets and senior members were given information cards about the nearest squadron, with some prospects from as far as 150 miles away. Amazingly, the weather cooperated by staying around 80 to 85 degrees throughout the two day event.
